Las Vegas Aces Win In A Down The Stretch Game

Author: Lucas Peltier

The Las Vegas Aces beat the Chicago Sky’s 90-82 in a close game on Tuesday, July 2nd at the Mandalay Bay Event Center. The Aces now have a record of 8-5 and are in first place in the Western Conference just ahead of the Seattle Storm.

Prior to the game the Aces were looking to stay focus and continue winning after they have won six of their last nine games. The Aces have been stellar on both ends of the floor with the contributions from three main players, A’ja Wilson, who is averaging 17 points and 8 rebounds, Liz Cambage, who has similar numbers to Wilson with averaging 15 points and 7 rebounds, and Kayla McBride, who is averaging 15 points. A key player for the Aces that comes off the bench is Dearica Hamby, who gives the team a “non stop” effort whether it is snagging rebounds, blocking shots, or scoring points, she gives it her all each and every game.

The Aces refused to lose at home as they were trailing 78-80 late in the fourth quarter in which the team caught fire and scored a total of 14 points to secure their victory after out scoring the Chicago Sky’s 18-10. The Aces shot at a 53.7 percentage while the Sky’s shot 44.3 percent, the Sky’s were in a shooting slump from the three point line only making 9 out of 23 while the Aces went 5 for 7 from deep range.

The Las Vegas Aces had their hands all in this game outscoring the Sky’s in points in the paint, out rebounding them as well, and points scored off of turnovers. Liz Cambage was the player of the game with 9 rebounds and 7 assists scoring with 16 points. The Aces are now 6-2 when at home and 5-0 when scoring 85 or more points.

The Aces continue to have NBA guest appearances such as shooting guard Josh Hart for the New Orleans Pelicans and point guard Trae Young for the Atlanta Hawks. The Aces will remain at home against the Washington Mystics this Friday, July 5 at 7:30. Continue to show your Ace spirit at the Mandalay Bay Event Center.
