A high profile fight for a high profile division, the lightweight division has been star studded for years now and dominated by champion Khabib Nurmagomedov he would face off with a highlight reel fighter in Justin Gaethje. Going into this bout, nobody outside of Nurmagomedov knew this would be his final fight inside the octagon. It was not the fight of the night by any means, Khabib did surprise in the first round, the typical sambo wrestling was put at bay for about 4 minutes and 20 seconds, he attacked the challenger with flying knees and landed a clean jab repeatedly. Gaethje, would land a signature leg kick that would damage Khabib slightly but not enough to turn Khabib away from his gameplan.
A short lived second round, featured a small exchange of punches followed by a beautiful takedown from Khabib, he would then work into mount and submit Gaethje with a triangle choke.
While, Khabib was once again his dominate self. He had shocked the MMA world indefinitely by taking off his gloves one last time and leaving them inside the cage there in fight island. The reasoning for Khabib's retirement was the tragic loss of his father, who for 20 years had helped coach Khabib. Khabib, had made a promise to his mother that he would no longer fight if his father is not there to make the walk beside him.
Nurmagomedov, currently is the number one pound for pound fighter in the UFC and a sure fire hall of famer. His time inside the cage may be over but his accolades and accomplishments will last forever, MMA fans will be able to look back on a dominant career from Khabib and "The Eagle" flies home the champion for once and for all.
