UNLV football suffered a devastating loss this Saturday against Colorado State, marking their third straight loss.

Colorado State established themselves early on their first possession of the game with a 99-yard kickoff return for a touchdown. Colorado State scored twice more in the first quarter with an 18 yard TD run by Marcus McElroy (#32) and an 11 yard TD by Jaylen Thomas (#27). UNLV struggled offensively in the first quarter, unable to score against the Rams, who led 21-0. CSU scored a 50-yard field goal to put the score 24-0 at halftime.

The Rebel’s put their first score on the board with a 37-yard field goal early in the 3rd quarter. UNLV defense held Colorado State to only a 23-yard field goal in the 3rd quarter leaving the score at the end of the 3rd quarter 27-3, with the Rams still carrying a heavy lead.

The fourth quarter was filled with twists and turns for the Rebel football team. After allowing the Rams another field goal, UNLV scored their first touchdown; a 14-yard reception from Kenyon Oblad to Randall Grimes. UNLV defense couldn’t hold, and allowed Colorado State to score from the red zone to increase their lead. UNLV managed to score in the final minutes of the fourth quarter with a pass from Kenyon Oblad, to receiver, Darren Woods Jr., who ran the ball in 15-yards for a touchdown. Despite the pick-up in the offense in the final quarter, the Rebels fell short to the Rams with a final score of 37-17.

UNLV struggled to maintain a strong and consistent defense and offense. The defense allowed Colorado State to score four touchdowns and three field goals. Despite the lack of scoring for the Rebel offense, running backs, Charles Williams Jr. and Chad Magyar, both had good gains in yardage throughout the game, with Williams leading the Rebels in rushing, with 83-yards, followed by Magyar, with 34 rushing yards. Quarterback, Kenyon Oblad, had 280 passing yards, and Randall Grimes lead the Rebel team with 92 receiving yards.

Head Coach Tony Sanchez stated after the game, “We just didn’t play well enough to win”

UNLV has a bye-week to anticipate their homecoming game against Hawaii on November 16th. Hawaii is currently ranked 2nd in the MW West, which will make the team a difficult opponent for the Rebels.
